William & Mary 86, Washington College 46
Senior guard Marcus Thornton scored a game-high 20 points, leading William & Mary to an 86-46 victory over Washington College on Friday night at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va.
Thornton led three players who scored in double figures for William & Mary (6-3), which shot 53.6 percent from the field, made 11 of 23 3-pointers and amassed a 41-22 rebounding advantage.
Junior guard Terry Tarpey scored 15 points. Sophomore guard Daniel Dixon had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior guard John Weston and sophomore guard James Drury scored nine points apiece for Washington College (1-8).
William & Mary raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first 2:19 and extended its lead to 13-2 on two free throws by Dixon with 15:16 left in the opening half. The Tribe went up 18-6 on a 3-pointer by Thornton with 14:04 to go and took a 26-10 lead on another 3-pointer by Thornton with 9:03 remaining.
William & Mary increased its advantage before intermission, going up by 20 on a layup from freshman guard Greg Malinowski with 4:49 to go and closing the half with a 10-0 run to take a 46-16 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Tribe shot 51.6 percent from the field in the first half and held the Shoremen to 20.6 percent shooting.
William & Mary continued its onslaught in the second half. The Tribe went up 65-25 on two free throws by Thornton with 12:31 to play and never let its lead dip below 33 points.
