Three Spurs Players Left Win Over Pelicans With Injuries Including Victor Wembanyama

Spurs Victor Wembanyama Has the 10th Most Blocks in an NBA Season Since 2000

Spurs came out on top against the Pelicans on Sunday afternoon, but they lost two starters to injury including star player Victor Wembanyama.

Spurs Riddled With Injuries

Although the Spurs were able to secure an important win against the Pelicans to take the team to .500 for the season, it came at a cost, as San Antonio lost some key players during the game

Victor Wembanyama had previously missed two consecutive games for San Antonio with back soreness and again his back troubled him on Sunday, as the Frenchman fell awkwardly in the first quarter.

Wembanyama is currently -200 to win defensive player of the year with the best online betting sites. The second year superstar was able to return to the game though and he led the way to the win with 25 points, 10 boards and 3 blocks, with the back injury less of a concern considering his good performance.

San Antonio didn’t just have Wemby’s injury to worry about though, as Zach Collins suffered a very similar fall to his teammate. Collins headed to the locker room with his back injury and he never returned to the game, playing just three minutes on Sunday.

Spurs Move To .500

The injury troubles continued again into the second quarter as the team lost another starter, with Stephon Castle this time entering the locker room after a nasty collision.

Like Wembanyama, Castle also returned to the game and played a crucial role in the win down the stretch, scoring 22 points of his own.

The Spurs still managed to win against weak Pelicans side that was missing both Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. Chris Paul also reached a major milestone in the win, moving to second in all-time assists with 10 in the game.

There is now a brief break for the Spurs to recover from their bruises at the weekend as their next game isn’t until Friday night, as the league breaks for the NBA Cup knockout stages.
