Jeff Hawkins is an award-winning sportswriter with more than four decades in the industry (print and digital media). A freelance writer/stay-at-home dad since 2008, Hawkins started his career with newspaper stints in Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Upstate New York and Illinois, where he earned the 2004 APSE first-place award for column writing (under 40,000 circulation). As a beat writer, he covered NASCAR Winston Cup events at NHIS (1999-2003), the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks (2003-06) and the NFL's Carolina Panthers (2011-12). Hawkins penned four youth sports books, including a Michael Jordan biography. Hawkins' main hobbies include mountain bike riding, 5k trail runs at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C., and live music.

Recently acquired guard Jeremy Lin of the Lakers sure has faced a lot of criticism and pressure the last couple years, which will surely still be there in Los Angeles next year. Lucky for Jeremy, he’s got a few great friends who take it upon themselves to keep him in a good mood. Even if Jeremy is confused by the whole process in this hilarious video.

They may have only been in Lexington for a year, but Kings center DeMarcus Cousins and Pelicans forward Anthony Davis aren’t about to forget their Kentucky roots and coach John Calipari who helped get them to the NBA.

When you think of Alabama, football is the first thing that comes to mind, not basketball. However, NBA stars like Cousins and free agent guard Eric Bledsoe have shown there’s some serious talent down south too. Led by Bledsoe as their coach, Team Birmingham managed to knock off the Ball Up professional streetball team that was previously undefeated on this summer’s tour. With the pure athleticism that can be found in Alabama, they’re a state to keep an eye on the court going forward.

Warriors forward Draymond Green thought he had an easy slam while participating in Team USA’s practice. Then, Pistons center Andre Drummond erased that thought real quick with this full extension block. Drummond is one of the many talented, young NBA players who is looking to blow up next year in the NBA with plays like this.

Next Man Up? Meet KeVaughn Allen
Doesn’t it seem that Florida consistently adds really athletic and sweet-shooting guards? Yeah, we thought so too and the next in line is KeVaughn Allen out of Little Rock. Allen is a winner who lays it all out on the line. It doesn’t hurt that the 6’3 guard has some serious bounce and a nice shooting stroke to help his team too. Coach Billy Donovan is smiling that he’s adding a Bradley Beal lookalike for the 2015 season.
