Old Dominion 75, George Mason 69

Reserve guard Ambrose Mosley helped Old Dominion avoid a letdown from its big weekend win over then-No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth.

Hitting for eight straight points in a 1:50 span late in Wednesday night’s non-conference game at George Mason, Mosley enabled the Monarchs to escape the Patriot Center with a 75-69 win in Fairfax, Va.

Mosley’s 3-pointer with three minutes left gave Old Dominion (6-1) the lead for good at 63-62. After making two foul shots with 1:55 remaining, Mosley sank the deciding 3-pointer with 1:10 off a pass from forward Richard Ross for a 68-62 advantage.

Mosley finished with a team-high 21 points for the Monarchs, which have won three straight. Ross filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Guard Trey Freeman added 15 points and six assists. Guard Aaron Bacote contributed 13 points.

Guard Marquise Moore scored a game-high 22 points for the Patriots (2-5), which also got 10 from reserve forward Vaughn Gray. George Mason shot 46.3 percent from the field and committed just six turnovers but was outscored 33-9 on 3-pointers.

Old Dominion had the game’s first big run, ripping off 13 straight points for a 15-6 lead with 13:03 left in the first half after a layup by Bacote.

George Mason steadied after that, gradually reeling the Monarchs in and tying the score at 25 when Gray drilled a 3-pointer with 4:55 remaining. Old Dominion made another small run near the half’s end, taking a 36-32 lead into halftime.
