NBA roundup: Thunder edge Wizards in OT

WASHINGTON — Forward Kevin Durant scored 34 points in his highly anticipated return to his hometown, and guard Russell Westbrook sank a layup with 0.8 seconds left in overtime that gave the Oklahoma City Thunder a 105-103 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

Westbrook, who finished with 32 points, also scored the game-tying layup with 26.9 seconds remaining in regulation and had 25 points after halftime.

Durant and Westbrook scored all 13 points for Oklahoma City in the extra session. The Thunder earned a fourth straight win and their fifth of six games. Center Steven Adams grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds.

Forward Nene scored nine of 24 points in the extra session for the Wizards. His free throw gave Washington a 101-100 lead with 58 seconds remaining in overtime.

Warriors 126, Rockets 113

OAKLAND, Calif. — Golden State emphatically completed its first season-series sweep of Houston in 41 years, crushing one of the Western Conference’s top teams in a game not nearly as close as the final score would indicate.

Shooting guard Klay Thompson scored 27 points, and the Warriors limited the Rockets to 42.5 percent shooting en route to their fourth straight win over Houston this season and their franchise-record 17th consecutive home victory.

The Warriors thumped the Rockets by 11, 12, 25 and 13 — an average of 15.3 points per game — in recording their first 4-0 sweep of Houston since the 1973-74 season.

Suns 118, Trail Blazers 113

PHOENIX — Guard Eric Bledsoe scored a career-high 33 points, and Phoenix blew a 25-point second-quarter lead and then had to rally to hold off Portland.

Guard Isaiah Thomas added 27 points for the Suns, who have won seven straight at US Airways Center and 14 of the last 18 overall. The Suns are 4-0 on a franchise-record eight-game homestand, but they turned a laugher into high drama.

Forward Nicolas Batum scored 27 points for Portland, and guard Damian Lillard and Wes Matthews had 22 each as the Blazers, who were down 58-33 in the second quarter. They not only rallied but led by five points at 110-105 after Batum’s sixth 3-pointer of the night with 2:20 left.

Knicks 98, 76ers 91

PHILADELPHIA — Losers of a franchise-record 16 straight games before beating New Orleans on Monday, New York toppled Philadelphia on Wednesday behind 27 points and 11 rebounds from forward Carmelo Anthony.

Guard Jose Calderon added 15 points and seven assists for the Knicks, who at 7-36, still have the NBA’s worst record.

Guard Michael Carter-Williams had 27 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead Philadelphia, which dropped three in a row and owns the league’s second-worst mark, 8-34. Forward Robert Covington added 17 points for the Sixers.

Cavaliers 106, Jazz 92

CLEVELAND — LeBron James had 26 points and nine assists while battling the flu, forward Kevin Love had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Cleveland beat for its fourth consecutive victory.

Center Timofey Mozgov had 16 points and 11 rebounds, guard Kyrie Irving scored 18 points and guard J.R. Smith had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Cavs.

Center Enes Kanter had 24 points and a season-high 17 rebounds for the Jazz.

Hornets 78, Heat 76

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Guard Kemba Walker returned from a two-game absence and scored 15 points, including three free throws in the final 23 seconds, and Charlotte remained hot with a victory over Miami.

The Hornets, who also got 12 points and 12 rebounds from center Bismack Biyombo, 12 points from center Al Jefferson, and 11 points from guard Gerald Henderson, have now won three straight and eight of their last nine.

The Heat lost their second game in two nights. Center Chris Bosh and guard Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 17 points each, and guard Mario Chalmers finished with 13.

Pistons 128, Magic 118

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Brandon Jennings had 24 points and a career-high 21 assists and Detroit scored a season high in points while downing Orlando at The Palace.

Center Andre Drummond bulled his way for 26 points and 16 rebounds, and power forward Greg Monroe delivered 24 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit. Small forward Kyle Singler added 14 points for the Pistons, whose previous high was 119 points against Indiana on Dec. 26.

Center Nikola Vucevic led the Magic with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Shooting guard Victor Oladipo supplied 23 points and small forward Tobias Harris, who returned after missing five games with a sprained left ankle, added 19 points and five rebounds. Guard Evan Fournier chipped in 14 points, but the Magic lost their third straight.

Hawks 110, Pacers 91

ATLANTA — Guard Jeff Teague had a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists, forward DeMarre Carroll also scored 17 to lead Atlanta past Indiana.

The Hawks placed six players in double figures.

The Pacers lost their sixth consecutive game. Forward C.J. Miles led Indiana with 18 points, and guard C.J. Watson added 13 points. Pacers guard Rodney Stuckey had all 12 of his points by intermission.

Mavericks 98, Timberwolves 75

MINNEAPOLIS — Chandler Parsons led all scorers with 22 points to lead Dallas over Minnesota at Target Center.

Parsons scored 15 of his 19 points first-half points in the second quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points during one stretch and 13 of 15. Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic, playing for the first time since Nov. 15 after battling wrist and ankle injuries, came off the bench and scored 14 points and had four rebounds in 23 minutes.

Pelicans 96, Lakers 80

NEW ORLEANS — Playing for the first time since missing three games with a sore left toe, forward Anthony Davis scored 20 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to lift New Orleans to a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Smoothie King Center.

Guard Tyreke Evans scored 19 points and guard Eric Gordon added 17 points and 10 assists for the Pelicans.

The Lakers, who lost their fifth consecutive road game, were paced by center Jordan Hill’s 15 points and guard Kobe Bryant’s 14.

Grizzlies 92, Raptors 86

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Center Marc Gasol scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists, and power forward Zach Randolph added 19 points and 13 rebounds as Memphis dominated the fourth quarter and defeated Toronto.

The Raptors lost for the eighth time in 11 games. Guard Lou Williams led Toronto with 21 points off the bench, and guard Kyle Lowry scored 20 points and eight rebounds. Center Jonas Valanciunas had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and forward Patrick Patterson chipped in 11 points with nine rebounds.

Memphis earned its fifth win in six games.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Forward Brook Lopez scored 22 points, and guard Joe Johnson hit a clutch 3-pointer and two free throws in the final 70 seconds, helping Brooklyn hold off Sacramento.
