Maryland-Eastern Shore 72, Fordham 66
Mike Myers scored 20 points and helped the visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks to a 72-66 victory over the Fordham Rams on Saturday at Rose Hill Gymnasium in New York.
Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-6) never trailed in the game, but the Hawks needed to hold off late charges from Fordham. The Rams cut the lead to two points a few times in the final minutes, the last when freshman guard Eric Paschall got a 3-point play with 2:46 left to make it 64-62.
But the Hawks bounced back and scored seven of the next nine points to seal the victory. Myers, a senior forward, hit two key free throws in that stretch.
Junior forward Dominique Elliott and freshman guard Ryan Andino both added 12 points for the victorious Hawks.
Maryland-Eastern Shore helped its cause with good shooting from the field and free-throw line. The Hawks made 52 percent of their shots from the field and hit 22 of 28 foul shots, several of which came down the stretch as they fought off the Rams.
Paschall paced Fordham with a game-high 25 points.
This was the first meeting ever between the two teams.
Maryland-Eastern Shore next plays at home on Wednesday night against Maryland-Baltimore County. Fordham is off until Dec. 10 when it hosts Siena.
