No such problems against the Gophers. The Bison shot 51.4 percent from the field, made 11 3-pointers and sank 16 of 19 free throws while committing 10 turnovers.

The 5-foot-11 sophomore hit three 3-pointers, made all six of his free throws, grabbed five rebounds and had four assists. Carlton led the Bison with seven rebounds and had three blocks.

Howard starts the season shorthanded. Junior guard Brandon Ford, a potential starter, is out 3-6 weeks with a Grade 3 ankle sprain. Senior forward Prince Okoroh, the team’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer last season, will miss the entire 2014-15 campaign with a right foot fracture.

The Bison play at William & Mary on Tuesday.
