Hofstra 88, Norfolk State 74

Hofstra junior guard Ameen Tanksley made all of his nine field-goal attempts and scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Pride over visiting Norfolk State 88-74 Tuesday night in a nonconference game.

Tanksley, who also made all five of his 3-pointers, topped his previous high of 29 points when he was with Niagara two seasons ago.

Norfolk State junior forward RaShid Gaston also shot well from the field, making 12 of 15 from the attempts, to lead the Spartans with 28 points.

A 20-4 run by Hofstra in the first half turned a seven-point deficit into a 39-30 lead with 3:34 left.

Norfolk State responded by cutting the lead to 43-42 on a layup by Gaston with less than 30 seconds elapsed in the second half.

After the Pride built a lead back to 10 points, 59-49, with 13:20 left, Norfolk State answered again with a 15-5 run, culminated by a 3-point play by freshman guard Malik Gray to cut the lead to 66-64 with 8:16 left.

Hofstra then went on a game-clinching 14-3 run to take an 80-67 lead with 3:42 left in the game. The Pride made four 3-pointers in that run, including two by sophomore guard Brian Bernardi.

Hofstra, of the Colonial Athletic Association, improved to 5-2. Norfolk State, of the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference is now 4-4.
