Hofstra 88, LIU Brooklyn 62
Junior guard Ameen Tanksley had a career-high 32 points and eight rebounds, leading Hofstra to an 88-62 victory over LIU Brooklyn Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Tanksley made 12 of 20 field-goal attempts and 5 of 11 from 3-point range to lead four players who scored in double figures for Hofstra (8-4). Junior guard Juan’ya Green recorded a triple-double, posting 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Freshman forward Nura Zanna had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead LIU Brooklyn (4-7). Sophomore guard Iverson Fleming scored 13 points. Sophomore guard Joel Hernandez had 10.
The game was tied with 13 minutes to play in the opening period.
LIU Brooklyn trailed by only three after senior forward Chris Carter made a layup with 10:27 to go, but then Hofstra took control.
The Pride mounted 11-1 and 13-5 runs to take a 45-25 lead at the break. Hofstra shot 58.6 percent from the field in the first half while holding LIU Brooklyn to 26.5-percent shooting.
The Blackbirds cut the deficit to 12 on a layup by Fleming with 15:50 to play, but Tanksley answered with a 3-pointer to spark a 10-0 run for the Pride. The Blackbirds trimmed Hofstra’s lead to 70-55 with just over six minutes remaining, but the Pride scored the next 14 points, extending its lead to 29 points.
