Colorado State 70, New Mexico 59

Senior forward J.J. Avila scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading Colorado State to a 70-59 victory over New Mexico on Tuesday night at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.

Junior guard Joe De Ciman scored 14 points and senior guard Daniel Bejarano added 12 for Colorado State (21-4, 8-4 Mountain West Conference), which lost two of its previous four games after going 18-2 to start the season.

Senior guard Deshawn Delaney scored 21 points to lead New Mexico (14-10, 6-6), which lost for the fifth time in seven games. Lobos freshman guard Xavier Adams had 11 points.

Colorado State jumped out to a 10-2 lead after De Ciman and Bejarano combined for three 3-pointers in a span of 54 seconds. The Rams extended their lead to 24-10 on a 3-pointer by junior guard Gian Clavell.

Colorado State led 35-19 at the break and maintained control in the second period. The Rams opened the half with a 9-2 run to go up 44-21, their largest lead of the game. The Lobos cut the deficit to eight on a couple of occasions in the final minutes, but they couldn’t get any closer.
