Cavaliers Injury Report: Jarrett Allen (Ankle) Out Against Nets

For the latest Cleveland Cavaliers injury report, center Jarrett Allen (ankle bone bruise) is out for Wednesday night’s 2023-24 season opener at the Brooklyn Nets.

Allen, 25, has been nursing a bone bruise in his ankle for the last couple of weeks. The injury caused him to miss all four preseason games and the rest of training camp.

Per multiple NBA betting sites, the Cavaliers hold 10th-shortest odds to win this season’s 2024 championship. Sportsbooks are showing better odds for the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Guard Darius Garland (left hamstring strain) is also questionable, and forward Dean Wade (illness) is doubtful. Garland missed the final preseason game as he worked through a few minor injuries.

Meanwhile, although Wade was one of the team’s standouts during training camp and throughout the preseason, the Kansas State product is not expected to play in Cleveland’s season opener.

As for the Nets, three players are listed on the injury report — guards Dennis Smith Jr. (ankle) and Cameron Johnson (hamstring) and forward Dariq Whitehead (foot). Both Smith Jr. and Johnson are probable, whereas Whitehead has been downgraded to out.

Entering Wednesday’s season opener, the Cavaliers are 1.5-point favorites away. Cleveland is 3-6 in its last nine meetings against Brooklyn.

Plus, the Eastern Conference contender is 2-5 in its past seven games on the road versus the Nets. Note that Cleveland has covered the spread in its previous five contests played in the month of October.

Furthermore, the Nets are 0-4-1 ATS in their past five games. The point total has gone under in seven of Brooklyn’s last 10 contests as well. Not to mention, the Nets are 7-13 ATS in their previous 20 matchups against Central Division opponents.

Last season, the Cavaliers went 2-1 versus Brooklyn in the regular season. In the most recent meeting on March 23, 2023, Cleveland won 116-114 away. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs in scoring with 31 points in 34 minutes of action.

According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, the Nets hold a 50.7% chance of winning their season opener. The Cavaliers take on Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m. ET. This matchup will air live on YES Network and BSOH.
