76ers rumors: high odds Tyrese Maxey is shopped with Ben Simmons

The Philadelphia 76ers have been working to trade three-time All-Star Ben Simmons. Thus far, they have been unsuccessful with negotiations, considering Daryl Morey, the team’s president of basketball operations, and general manager Elton Brand are demanding a king’s ransom for their point guard. Per sources, now they are aiming to trade Tyrese Maxey along with Simmons, in a packaged deal. Maxey was selected 21st overall by the 76ers in the 2020 NBA Draft.

In the 2020-21 NBA season, the shooting guard averaged eight points, 1.7 rebounds and two assists per game in 61 games played. Last season, he also shot 46.2 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from three-point range. A couple of days ago, the Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves were in active trade talks with Brand, but as stated before, the asking price demands are ridiculous. If Morey and Brand are serious about finding Simmons a new team, it is imperative that they lower their high demands. Otherwise, the 2016 first overall pick will remain in Philadelphia.

A few local Philadelphia based organizations had planned on partnering with Maxey on some community events. They were told to cancel those plans. Paul would not like Maxey to grow roots in Philly if he could be gone.

Maxey’s chosen teams and Simmons’ next team odds

Furthermore, Philadelphia’s front office are willing to work together with Simmons during training camp, but the Australian guard no longer has the desire to practice with the team, per yesterday’s reports. Rich Paul, his agent, is assisting the organization to help facilitate an immediate trade. There is also speculation that Paul is functioning in a team-friendly atmosphere, using extra leverage in his power to trade Maxey as well. He can help more than one client at the same time.

According to sources, Maxey is interested in playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers or Golden State Warriors. The shooting guard is currently signed to a rookie-scale contract, so a trade can complicate things. On December 2, 2020, the 20-year-old signed the multi-year contract; he earned $2,478,840 last season and will earn $2,602,920 in the upcoming 2021-22 season. The 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons are team options.

Referencing MyBookie, the Warriors have the third-best odds (+600) of trading for Simmons. However, neither the Lakers nor the Clippers have expressed interest in trading future draft picks for the 25-year-old guard. Plus, the Lakers currently possess +8000 odds of trading for the star, whereas the Clippers have +6000 odds.

Moreover, as of September 1st, the Sacramento Kings remain the favorites to trade for Simmons, possessing +250 odds. Maxey could end up on a team he’s not hyped to play for. While the guard could play in California, it is unlikely both players will play on the Lakers. Their offseason additions and salary cap will put this talk to rest. If the season begins and no further action has been taken by the 76ers’ front office, this will spiral into a nasty situation for all parties involved. Team chemistry is important for title contenders.
