Boston University shot the lights out in the first half to end any notion of an upset by Lafayette, earning a 91-54 victory Wednesday in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinals at Case Gym in Boston.

The top-seeded Terriers (23-9) shot 68 percent over the first 20 minutes, going 17-for-25 from the field and making seven of their nine 3-point attempts. Boston University guard Maurice Watson Jr. had 15 points at the break and finished with a game-high 21. He made nine of 14 shots.

Guard D.J. Irving added 17 points and forward Travis Robinson scored 14 for Boston University, which moves on to face fifth-seeded Army in Saturday’s semifinals in Boston. The Black Knights edged fourth-seeded Bucknell 72-71 on Wednesday in a quarterfinal game at Lewisburg, Pa.

Ninth-seeded Lafayette (11-20) was picked second in the conference preseason poll, and it entered the night with wins in seven of its last 10 games, including an 84-71 victory over eighth-seeded Loyola (Maryland) on Monday in the first round of the conference tournament.

The Leopards were sloppy on both ends of the court Wednesday, however. They turned the ball over 17 times and allowed the Terriers to shoot 66.1 percent for the game.

Guard Seth Hinrichs and guard Bryce Scott each had 13 points to lead the Leopards. Hinrichs added a game-high eight rebounds.
