Junior guard Corban Wroe scored 21 points, helping Hartford conclude the regular season with a 67-56 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday at Chase Family Arena in West Hartford, Conn.

Wroe made 7 of 9 field-goal attempts and 4 of 5 from 3-point range for Hartford (16-15, 10-6 America East Conference), which won six of its last seven regular-season games to edge Albany for third place. Junior guard Yolonzo Moore II had 14 points and six assists while junior forward Mark Nwakamma posted 10 points and eight rebounds.

Freshman guard Rodney Elliott scored 21 points for UMBC (9-20, 5-11), which has lost four in a row and five of six. Freshman guard Charles Taylor Jr. added 11 points.

Hartford took an early 7-2 lead and never trailed. UMBC tied the game at 7-7 on a layup by senior forward Brett Roseboro and trailed by one after Taylor scored on a putback with 8:25 to play in the opening period, but the Hawks outscored the Retrievers 14-5 over the final 8:10.

Sophomore guard Taylor Dyson and Wroe made 3-pointers to bookend an 8-0 run that put Hartford up 23-14 with 5:47 remaining. Another 3-pointer by Wroe gave the Hawks a 29-17 lead with 27 seconds to go.

Hartford led 29-19 at the break and continued to pull away early in the second half. The Hawks extended their lead to 17 on a layup by senior forward Oren Faulk and went up 55-31 on a 3-pointer by Wroe with 8:22 to go. Elliott scored nine points over a span of 1:34 to fuel a late 13-0 run by the Retrievers, but by then it was too late.

Both teams will participate in the America East tournament, which will be held March 8-15 at SEFCU Arena in Albany, N.Y.
