The Colonial Athletic Association schedule makers didn’t do any favors for the Hofstra Pride.

Coming off back-to-back losses — by a combined 10 points — to the conference’s top two teams, the Pride traveled to Williamsburg, Va., on Wednesday night to face the third-place William & Mary Tribe.

Much like they did against the top two teams, the Pride gave another top CAA team all it could handle but fell short again, 79-74, to stretch their losing streak to five in a row.

After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half, Hofstra rallied to cut the deficit to just three with 3:01 remaining.

Hofstra senior forward Zeke Upshaw and William & Mary freshman guard Omar Prewitt put on their own little scoring clinic for the next 90 seconds.

Upshaw’s 3-pointer at the 3:01 mark cut the Hofstra deficit to 66-63, but Prewitt answered with his own 3-pointer 30 seconds later.

Upshaw once again connected from beyond the arc, and Prewitt once again answered to give the Tribe a 72-66 lead.

Upshaw was fouled on his next 3-point attempt, and he sank all three free throws. Prewitt answered with a layup to push the William & Mary lead back out to 74-69.

Hofstra (8-22, 4-11) scored the next three points, but the Tribe (18-10, 10-5) converted five free throws in the final 37 seconds to seal the game.

Upshaw finished with a game-high 28 points. All seven of his field goals came from 3-point distance.

Prewitt and senior guard Brandon Britt each scored 16 to lead William & Mary. Senior forward Kyle Gaillard had 15.
