Richmond 62, La Salle 49
The Richmond Spiders got hot from three-point range in the second half and knocked off the LaSalle Explorers 62-49 at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va., on Saturday.
The Spiders (18-9, 8-4 Atlantic 10) won for the fourth time in five games and remain tied with Massachusetts, George Washington and Virginia Commonwealth for third place in the Atlantic 10 with four conference losses. The top four teams get a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
Richmond trailed LaSalle (12-14, 4-8) 24-23 at halftime, after shooting just 25 percent from the field and going 2-for-10 from 3-point range. It was a different Spiders offense that took the court after intermission, however, going 5-for-6 from long range and pulling away down the stretch. The Spiders forced 15 turnovers and held the Explorers to 32.7 percent shooting from the field (18-55).
The Spiders were led by their bench. Forward Terry Allen scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while guard ShawnDre’ Jones added 10 points. Starting guard Kendall Anthony added 14, but on 4 of 15 shooting.
LaSalle lost its fifth game in a row despite getting 26 points from guard Tyreek Duren. Forward Jerrell Wright added 10 points. The rest of the Explorers combined to go 6-for-31 from the floor.
