Chris Paul passes Jason Kidd to become second in all-time assists
San Antonio Spurs guard Chris Paul bypassed current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd to become second in all-time assists on Sunday.
Paul, 39, achieved the feat in San Antonio’s 121-116 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans where he set up a three-pointer for Victor Wembanyama to take his tally to 12,092 all-time.
That number pushed him ahead of Kidd into second, who enjoyed a 19-year career in the league where won a championship, made ten All-Star teams and earned five All-NBA First Team honors.
Paul himself is still chasing that elusive championship ring and it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll go down as one of the greatest ever to never reach the top of the mountain.

Like Paul, who are the greatest players never to win an NBA championship?
Paul has been selected to 12 All-Star teams, won an All-Star Game MVP, earned 11 All-NBA team honors including four First Teams, nine All-Defense nods including Seven First Teams, led the league in assists on five occasions and in steals six times – and he’s on the 75th Anniversary Team.
At this point, you have to consider Paul among the likes of James Harden, Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson and Karl Malone as one of the best NBA players to never win a championship.
You’d think that his longtime friendship with LeBron James would have earned him a ring by now, but they’ve never played for the same club and Paul’s best shot came in 2021 with the Phoenix Suns.
After taking a 2-0 lead, the Suns choked and Giannis Antetokounmpo hit his peak as the Milwaukee Bucks won four straight games to steal the series. As long as Paul is in San Antonio, it’s probably safe to assume his championship aspirations are over.
