The Boise State Broncos notched their eighth consecutive victory with a 67-42 win over visiting the Air Force Falcons on Wednesday night at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.
Sophomore forward James Webb III led the Broncos with 17 points with a career-high-tying 15 rebounds.
The victory improved the Broncos to 18-6 overall and 8-3 in the Mountain West Conference. They were tied temporarily atop the conference with San Diego State and Wyoming, both of which played late Wednesday night in San Diego.
Air Force (11-13, 4-9) was led by freshman reserve guard Matt Mooney’s 12 points. He was the lone Falcon in double-figure scoring.
Boise State, which swept the regular-season series from Air Force, outrebounded the Falcons 31-23 and limited them to 40.5 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent (4 of 16) from three-point range.
Webb’s rebound total tied the 15 he recorded against UNLV on Jan. 13.
The Broncos were never threatened after taking a 25-14 lead at halftime. Senior guard Derrick Marks (seven points), freshman forward David Wacker (six) and senior forward Rob Heyer (five) as a trio outscored the Falcons at intermission with 18 points.
Webb III had 10 rebounds by halftime, one less than Air Force had as a team.
Boise State, which never trailed after taking a lead with 15:12 left in the first half, closed the first half by limiting Air Force to only one field goal in the last six minutes.
Webb III led a 19-8 surge to start the second half with nine points that put the Broncos comfortably ahead 44-22 with 13:35 left in the game.
