Jameel Warney finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Stony Brook Seawolves took command in the second half and scored a 67-52 victory over the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds on Sunday at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Warney, a forward, also added seven blocks as Stony Brook (6-6) made life tough for Loyola (3-7) inside. Both teams struggled on offense in the first half, which ended in a 26-26 tie.

Stony Brook took the lead for good with a six-point run early in the second half. That put the Seawolves up, 41-35, and Stony Brook scored 41 in the final 20 minutes.

The Greyhounds never found their rhythm on offense. They finished shooting just 32 percent (15-for-47) from the field and lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Loyola would have found more trouble if it hadn’t made 18 of 22 free throws. This was the Greyhounds’ first game in 12 days, and they were sluggish.

Guard Cam Gregory led the Greyhounds with 14 points, and back-court mate Tyler Hubbard added 10. But no other Loyola player scored more than six points.

Loyola next plays on Dec. 28, when it heads to Fairfield as the Greyhounds will have played just one game in 19 days. Stony Brook will host American on Tuesday.
