MIAMI — Florida International led from start to finish and posted its third victory in three outings, defeating Florida Memorial 74-48 on Friday night.

Guard Dennis Mavin scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and forward Adrian Diaz, a transfer from Kansas State, posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers.

FIU guard Ray Rodriguez came off the bench to score 13 points, going 3 of 4 from the field and making all six of his free throws.

Florida Memorial’s Samuel Dorismond led all scorers with 22 points. Forward Shaquille Harding also was in double figures for the Lions (0-2) with 11 points.

The Panthers got out in front 5-0 early on and closed the first half with a late run to go to the locker room up 37-19.

The Lions reduced the margin just a little five minutes into the second half and were within 15 at 55-40 with under eight minutes left, but the Panthers closed out the game on a 19-8 run.

FIU’s biggest lead was 27 points with 1:33 left.

The Panthers shot 53.3 percent from the field (24 of 45) and forced the Lions into 21 turnovers while committing 14.

Florida Memorial shot 34.8 percent from the field (16-of-46) after going only 6 of 22 (27.3 percent) in the first half.

FIU also had a 33-31 rebounding edge. Forward Roody Romain had 10 rebounds for the Lions.
