NBA roundup: LeBron weighs in on 2016 Olympics

With LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavalier teammates in Brazil to play an exhibition game Saturday against the Miami Heat, much of the talk has turned to the game’s best player and the 2016 Olympics, coincidentally in Brazil.

It’s just too early to make a decision, James said Friday.

“I’m undecided,” the 29-year-old James said. “It’s not until 2016. I got two years. I got a long time.”

Along with James, two other Cavaliers have been selected to try out for the Olympics. Forward Kevin Love, whom Cleveland acquired from Minnesota in the offseason, will join point guard Kyrie Irving as possible Olympians.

–Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving will not play in the Cavaliers’ preseason game Saturday against the Miami Heat in Brazil.

Irving sprained his right ankle Tuesday in Cleveland during the team’s final practice before leaving for the NBA’s Global Games. He had been seen in Brazil wearing a protective boot for precautionary measures.

Even though the boot was gone by Friday, Irving still was not practicing. He told the Cleveland Plain Dealer the ankle is “good” and insists this isn’t anything to worry about.

–Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson was diagnosed with a moderate strain of his left calf muscle and is expected to miss a minimum of one week.

Clarkson, who was injured in the second quarter of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors, was examined Friday by Dr. Steven Yoon of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

Clarkson was a second-round pick in this year’s draft. The Lakers acquired him from the Washington Wizards on draft night in a cash move.

–Washington Wizards forward Kris Humphries underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair nerve damage in his right small finger.

Humphries lacerated his hand on the rim, between his fourth and fifth phalanxes in the second quarter of a preseason game earlier this week at Chicago.

Humphries is expected to miss three to four weeks before resuming basketball activity.
